Popular webcomic and smug breakfast man The Oatmeal wrote a thingy on the supposed misuse of the word literally, which thingy has generated 165,000 likes on Facebook. There are even snarky tees dedicated to this worthless cause.

I might regret this oneday, but the only thing people using ‘literally’ are guilty of is trying to innocently spice up a story with some extra hyperbole. Someone claiming they're "so hungry [they] could eat the navigator" is not suddenly burdened by a necessity to describe things without exaggeration just because they threw in a ‘literally.’ Thinking otherwise is so random.
