Dear Mr. Blogler,
Christmas has just passed, and inevitably some of us will have been gifted items we could've lived without. What are your thoughts on regifting?
Have you ever regifted? -from Christina C.
Thanks for the question, Christina. I have a little story I like to
relate to people who are having this particular moral dilemma. Many Christmases ago I
was given madness, as a gag gift. It was funny at the time, but I had no use
for it. It sat around collecting dust for years, until finally I couldn't stand
seeing it clutter up my desk any longer and I scooped it up and put it in a
box and gave it to Dave Draiman for his birthday. Regifting is perfectly
acceptable if the giftee isn't the wiser, and anyway Dave actually seemed really
pumped about it. So the way I look at it, the item could sit unused on a shelf or
under your bed, or it could make someone you care about very happy. As long as you're tight-lipped about it, you should be golden!
